Walter Tchorz Sr.
Mr. Walter Tchorz Sr., 96, died Friday, November 10, 2017 in his home surrounded by his loving and caring family.
Visitation will take place in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle St., Linden, on Friday, November 17th. from 6:00 – 8:00PM and Saturday, November 18th. from 10:00AM -12:00 Noon. On Saturday, at the conclusion of the visitation at Noon, there will be a celebration of life and a prayer service in the funeral home, which will be followed by the prayers of committal in the chapel of Rosehill Crematory in Linden. The inurnment of Mr. Tchorz’s cremains, along with those of his late wife, Pauline, in the family niche in the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, New Jersey will take place at a future date.
Mr. Tchorz, the son of the late Kunegunda Kurasz Tchorz and the late Michael Tchorz, was born in Jersey City, New Jersey. He lived in Parlin, New Jersey before moving in 1963 into the home that his father built in Linden, New Jersey.
Mr. Tchorz was a superintendent of operations area 1 cat-cracker for Amerada Hess, working in the both the New Jersey and the U.S. Virgin Islands facilities for thirty years, before retiring in 1985.
He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Tchorz, who was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant of the 251st. combat engineer battalion, 9th. Army military district, was the holder of both the bronze star and the victory medal and other various ribbons.
Mr. Tchorz was predeceased by his wife, Pauline Mesko Tchorz on September 24, 2014, as well as his three brothers, John Tchorz, Paul Tchorz and Edward J. Tchorz.
Mr. Tchorz is survived by his son, Walter Tchorz Jr.; his daughter, Linda Dec and her husband, Edward; his brother, Stanley Tchorz; his sister, Helen Klutkoski and his three grandchildren, Michael Dec, David Dec and Alex Dec.
