Yvonne Johnson Obituary

Yvonne M. Johnson, 85, died Friday, October 22, 2021, in the Atria Senior Living facility in Cranford, New Jersey.

Yvonne, the daughter of the late Marie Antoinette Livemont Johnson and the late Raymond Edison Johnson, was born in Arnold, Pennsylvania.  She was raised in the Italian section of Greenwich Village and, as a teenager, lived in the borough of Queens, New York.  Yvonne migrated to California for a year, came back to Manhattan where she lived for many years before moving to upstate New York where she lived for fifteen years. Following that, she again relocated to Maine, where she lived from 1996 until June of 2021, when she decided that Cranford, New Jersey was where she needed to be.

Yvonne had a very storied and interesting life.  For over twenty years, she worked as a production manager for various advertising agencies and publishing companies in New York City.  While living in upstate New York Yvonne started a business called “The Good Egg”, where she picked up eggs from a rural farm an delivered them to her clients, which included local restaurants and supermarkets.  When she moved to Maine, Yvonne initially worked for a housekeeping/cleaning service.  Imaginative as always, she started a business called, “Animal Sit Service”, where Yvonne cared for pets whose owners were working or away on business or vacations. Yvonne was heavily relied on and loved by her two and four legged clients who were all sad when health issues forced her to stop providing services in 2016.

Yvonne was always a big supporter and lover of dogs. A highlight of some of her days was watching or attending dog shows and discussing the results with like-minded friends.

Yvonne was an avid football and tennis enthusiast.  She was a fan of Penn State, the New England Patriots, the New York Giants, and the Pittsburg Steelers and she rarely missed watching a game.  If a tennis match was televised, you could be sure Yvonne was watching, at least until Roger Federer was eliminated.

Yvonne was very interested in politics and, much to the consternation of her friends, always wanted to DISCUSS local and national events.

On the artistic side, Yvonne loved to paint, mostly working with watercolors.  This gave her great joy. When she was able, Yvonne was also into both salt and fresh -water fishing.   As you can see, Yvonne was an eclectic and colorful character with a particular talent for re-inventing herself.

Having been predeceased by her family, Yvonne is survived by Jo Ann Segotta, her friend for over fifty years and a host of caring friends in many states.  She will always be remembered with love.

In accordance with Yvonne’s wishes, her cremation will be private.

Anyone wishing to do something in Yvonne’s memory can donate to their local animal shelter or Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.
