Susan Umile Obituary

Ms. Susan Rose Spazianto Umile, 72, entered the arms of the Lord surrounded by His heavenly angels on Monday, April 22, 2024.

We respectfully request that no one arrives at the crematory chapel prior to the posted time.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation to be held in the Rosehill Crematory Chapel on the grounds of Rosehill Cemetery, 792 East Edgar Road, (Route 1 & 9 Northbound Lane), Linden on Friday, April 26th. from 10:00-11:00AM.  The prayers of committal will be offered at 10:40AM in the crematory chapel.

Susan, the daughter of the late Helen and Joseph Spazianto, was born in the Bronx, New York.  She moved to New Jersey in 1980 where she resided in Cedar Grove until 1996 when she relocated to Bloomfield, New Jersey.  In 2010, Susan continued to live in various New Jersey towns, including Nutley, Clifton, and Linden before settling in Cranford a year ago.

She enjoyed a twenty-year career as an executive assistant in the banking industry, working for different banks before taking her well-earned retirement.

In her free time, Susan enjoyed going to the movies, especially any comedy or romantic comedy.  Two of her favorite films were “West Side Story” and “Pretty Woman”.  Walking gave her great peace of mind and Susan enjoyed the beauty of being outdoors, taking in the sights that nature so readily offered.  She and her son, John, often could be found walking in Verone Park after which they would stop at her favorite restaurant - Friendly’s in Clark, where they would enjoy a meal or some ice cream.  A lover of animals, Susan would often volunteer at the cat shelter in Wayne.  Throughout her life, she had a variety of pets, including two cats, named Gizmo and Amber and three guinea pigs, Pinky, Coco, and Ally.  Music was a large part of her life and Susan enjoyed listening to Classic Rock and even some Pop.  Whenever a great song came on, Susan would be singing along and tapping her toes.  Music seemed to simply “make her smile”.

The broken hearts left behind include her son, John J. Umile and his wife, Stacey Pontoriero; her brother, Joseph Spazianto; her sister, JoAnn Spazianto; her former husband, John M. Umile and her many neighbors and friends.

Susan was a true treasure, and she had an abundance of love for everyone in her circle.  Without a doubt, she will be deeply missed, but Susan will never be forgotten.  May she be blessed with eternal peace.
