Family and friends are invited to the memorial visitation which will be held in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Wednesday, April 7th. from 10:00AM-12:00Noon.  Immediately following the visitation, the memorial funeral mass will be offered in St. Theresa of the Child Jesus R.C. Church, Linden at 1:00PM.  The cremation in Rosehill Crematory was private.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations in Richard’s memory be made to American Forests, 1220 L Street, NW, Suite 750, Washington, DC 20005 or online at http://give.americanforests.org/ways-to-give/memorial-gift-trees/

Richard, the son of the late Rozalia Gora Piatkiewicz and the late Eugeniusz Piatkiewicz was born, raised and educated in Nowy Sacz, Poland.  He came to the United States in 1985, living first in New York City for five years, followed by his residence in Linden, New Jersey for twenty-three years, before he and his family settled in Watchung, New Jersey seven years ago.

Richard was a self-employed general contractor for the past thirty-five years.

Richard was an honest and selfless man who put everyone before himself, even at his own expense.  He would regularly go out of this way to help his family and friends, without ever mentioning the personal grief or inconvenience it may have caused for him.  Richard would never mention any personal problems because he always felt like others have their own troubles and he would not want to contribute to their difficulty.  Richard was never an open book and he was a man who kept a lot to himself, but he undoubtedly taught his sons how to provide for a family by any means necessary.  Being introduced to a new world in America, he was the textbook definition of a hardworking immigrant who worked his way around the entrepreneurial hardships to provide for his family.  Richard’s skill and his passion for architectural design was apparent in his unique personal and professional real estate projects.

We all learned a lot from Richard about being an honorable, disciplined, loving husband, father and a good hearted soul.

Richard is survived by his wife of thirty-three years, Mariola Peczek Piatkiewicz; his two sons, Konrad Piatkiewicz and Adrian Piatkiewicz and his fiancé, Catherine Linden; his sister, Elzbieta Krupa and her husband, Wojtek; his three brothers, Wieslaw Piatkiewicz and his wife, Kasia, Antoni Piatkiewicz and his wife, Lucyna and Leon Piatkiewicz and his wife, Halina;  his brother-in-law, Marek Peczek and several nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

As per the regulations imposed through the State of New Jersey, there will now be a maximum of one hundred and fifty people allowed in the funeral home and the church at one time and face protection is required.  We thank you for your understanding during this time of transition.
