Monita Brown Obituary

Ms. Monita Chantay Brown, 58, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, in the Trinitas Hospital in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Family and friends are invited to the memorial visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Saturday, November 13th. from 2:00-4:00PM.  In respect of Monita’s wishes, her cremation in Rosehill Crematory, Linden was private.

Monita is the daughter of Almeta Barr Brown and James Brown.  Although born in Newark, New Jersey, Monita was a lifelong resident of Linden, New Jersey.

Monita loved to cook, and she excelled at it.  Quite frankly, it didn’t matter whether she was cooking for one or a hundred, Monita always went all out.  Some of her favorite recipes were banana pudding, German potato salad, shrimp scampi and the scrumptious shrimp alfredo.  Monita was always listening to music, rhythm & blues, house music, soul music…anything that got her feet moving to the groove!  She so loved to dance.  She even dabbled with karaoke & was known to be quite good at it.  When she had some downtime, Monita enjoyed watching the true crime and lifetime movie channels.  No matter what Monita was doing, she always loved to be around her family and friends, helping whoever she could, and her kindness was a light shining through her beautiful eyes and her smiling lips.  Her family was her heart!

She was predeceased by her father, James Brown; her sister, Patricia Ann Brown and her best friend, Robert “LA” Tucker.

Monita is survived by her daughter, Angel Monet Nelson; her mother, Almeta Barr Brown; her sister, Hattie Brown-James; her two brothers, James L. Brown and Medford L. Brown; her two best friends, Shawnee and Mena and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends.

Monita was a woman of many talents and an abundance of love for everyone in her circle.  She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
