Mary Ferjo Obituary

Mrs. Mary Palovcak Ferjo, 93, died Sunday, January 19, 2020 in the Fox Trail Assisted Living in Deptford, New Jersey.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Thursday, January 23rd. from 4:00-8:00PM.  The Parastas Service will take place in the funeral home on Thursday evening at 7:30PM.  On Friday, January 24th. from 8:30-9:00AM everyone will gather in the funeral home where a prayer service will be held at 9:00AM, followed by the Divine Liturgy to be offered in the St. George the Great Martyr Byzantine Catholic Church, Linden at 10:00AM.  The prayers of committal will precede her burial in the family plot in St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia, New Jersey.

Mrs. Ferjo, the daughter of the late Anna Matiova Palovcak and the late Michael Palovcak, was born in Zaluzice, Czechoslovakia.  She came to the United States in 1956 and lived in Roselle, New Jersey for forty-nine years before settling in Millstone Township eleven years ago.

Mrs. Ferjo was a seamstress for the Hilton Manufacturing Company in Linden, New Jersey for thirty-five years and she retired in 1992.

Mrs. Ferjo was a member of the St. George Holy Rosary Society.  She was very active in her church community and enjoyed going on all their bus trips.  However, the most important role in Mrs. Ferjo’s life was being a wife and a mother.  She loved to bake and prepare traditional foods for her family, such as holupki and pirohi.  Mrs. Ferjo was always took great delight in traveling with her husband, John, whether they went to Island Beach Park or visited Slovakia or the Island of Hawaii.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Ferjo in 1994 and her two sisters, Suzanna Kerestan and Anna Sincak.  Mrs. Ferjo is survived by her son, Jaroslav “Jerry” Ferjo; her daughter, Olga Karak; her three grandchildren, Lauren Harfst and her husband, Steve, Kristen Miller and her husband, Jon and John Karak and his wife, Laura; her six great grandchildren, Emory Harfst, Leighton Harfst, Logan Harfst, Tatum Miller, Ethan Karak and Kaiden Karak and her great grand dog, Zoe-Zoe.
