The family has requested that you please omit flowers.  Instead, donations in Mrs. Szymanski’s memory can be made to St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church in Linden.

Mrs. Szymanski, the daughter of the late Genowefa Kalucka Kowalski and the late Ludwik Kowalski, was born in Gwozna Gora, Poland.  She came to the United States in 1974 and she lived in Bayonne, New Jersey before settling in Linden, New Jersey in 1983.

While in Poland, Mrs. Szymanski was the chief bookkeeper for a textile company for many years.  Here in the United States, she was employed as a clerical worker for various law firms, both in New York City, New York, as well as, in New Jersey for thirty years before retiring twenty-two years ago.

Throughout her life, Mrs. Szymanski was an avid gardener.  She probably has one of the largest gardens in Linden where she grew all varieties of fruits, vegetables, and flowers.  Everything flourished under her green thumb and loving care.  Mrs. Szymanski was also an accomplished seamstress and dress maker both in Poland and the United States and she would often be making clothes for both family and friends.  As talented as she was in all her interests, her cooking was spectacular.  At the drop of a hat, she would be making her grandchildren homemade chicken soup.  Mrs. Szymanski made sure to always feed anyone who stopped by to visit her, and she never went to anyone’s home, without bringing one of her special dishes.  Cooking was most definitely her passion!  She had so many cookbooks and her garden provided many of the ingredients to try out menus, both new and old.  It was known throughout the family, that the Easter Holiday was always held at her home and the food would be delicious and abundant.  Everyone would be stuffed before they even reached the dessert course.

Mrs. Szymanski is survived by her husband of forty-four years, Karol Szymanski; her four children, Ryszard Lorek and his wife, Boguslawa, Krystyna Patholec and her husband, Mieczyslaw, Elizabeth Lorek, Hubert Szymanski and his wife, Adriana; her brother, Stanislaw Kowalski; her sister, Krystyna Bodziona; her eight grandchildren and her three great grandchildren.

Mrs. Szymanski was the heart and soul of her family, and she was beloved by all.  Everyone’s hearts are broken by this great loss and the family appreciates all your love, support, and prayers at this time.
