Mr. Joseph A. Connelly, Sr., 72, died Sunday, April 25, 2021 in the Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Wednesday, May 5th. from 10:00AM to 12:00Noon. At the conclusion of the visitation, there will be a funeral service in the funeral home. The prayers of committal will precede Mr. Connelly’s burial in the family plot in St. Gertrude’s Cemetery in Colonia, New Jersey.

Joe, the son of the late Cecilia Bober Connelly and the late Edward Connelly was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He resided most of his life in Elizabeth and Linden prior to moving to Toms River, New Jersey in 2006.
Joe was employed as a chemical operator for Allied Chemical as well as Schering-Plough Corp. and Merck Inc. of Union, New Jersey for many years prior to his retirement seven years ago.
He honorably served his Country for six years in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Vietnam War.
Joe’s early endeavors included that of a local on-air DJ personality for WJDM radio station in Elizabeth. Joe operated his own mobile DJ company under the name of “Smokin’ Joe”, mainly in the Union County area and he was also involved in a local group, known as the Sound Investment, where Joe was singing acapella.
Since 1983, Joe was a member of the Linden Moose Lodge #913 of Linden.
Predeceased by his brother, Edward Frank Connelly, Jr., Joe is survived by his son, Joseph A. Connelly, Jr and his wife, Misty; his two sisters, Cecilia Connelly and Carol Mulligan and her husband, Dan; his brother, Charles Connelly and his wife, Abbe, his granddaughter, Marisa; several nieces and nephews, Janice Gassler, his best friend for many years and numerous cousins in the New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Florida area.
