Sam, the son of the late John “Jack” Rothwell and the late Jean Moore Rothwell, was born in Youngstown, Ohio and he has resided in Edison, New Jersey for the past thirty-nine years.
Sam was a graduate of Kent State University, the class of 1963 and after a few years at Procter and Gamble selling consumer products he decided to take his sales skills in a different direction, selling industrial pumps which Sam did with a passion for the rest of his career. Sales fit his charismatic personality as Sam truly never met a stranger. In his early days, Sam’s profession relocated him and his family to many states in the US, where Sam always embraced the opportunity to meet new people and whatever business challenge he was there to fix. His career in this industry spanned fifty-eight years which included having his own company, JSR Equipment Company in Edison, that he operated for ten years prior to retiring eight years ago.
Sam worked hard but always found time for the other passions in his life. His family was always foremost in his life, with too many road trips to count between Massachusetts and Maryland for visits. Traveling was a way of life for Sam, which included treks to Rockport each year to celebrate their wedding anniversary with some lobster pie or traipsing about to dog shows with their champion dogs, Lord Spencer and Lady Sarah. There was also cruising down the Jersey shore on the boat Sam had always dreamed of owning, the “Samjubar”, tinkering around the house with his many gadgets and of course, tee time and golfing with his friends. Sam’s generous heart and contagious personality will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was pre-deceased by his brother, Peter Rothwell, his sister Phyllis Bodine and his brother in-law Richard Zack.
Sam leaves behind his beloved wife of forty years, Judith Zack Rothwell and his two daughters Sharon Brovelli and her husband Stephen and Susan MacIntyre and her husband Scott. Sam was the proud grandfather to four grandsons and one granddaughter: John Brovelli and his fiancée Patricia Rodas, Jordan Brovelli and her husband Sean Graham, Jason Brovelli, Cameron MacIntyre and Cullen MacIntyre.
