Gregory Stewart Obituary

Mr. Gregory Gordon Stewart, 67 died Wednesday, July 14, 2021, in Linden, New Jersey.

The cremation in Rosehill Crematory was private.  The inurnment of Gregory’s cremains in the niche in the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, New Jersey will also be a private ceremony.

Gregory, the son of the late Joan Gordon Stewart and the late John Morris Stewart, was born in Cape Town, South Africa and he came to the United States in October of 1968.  Gregory resided in Elizabeth, New Jersey from 1969 until 1983, when he moved to Winfield Park, New Jersey.

Gregory had been employed as a corrections officer for the Union County Department of Corrections in Elizabeth, New Jersey for twenty years and he retired in 2015.

He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War Era.

In his spare time, Gregory enjoyed various sports and outdoor activities, including soccer, cricket and fishing.  His heart and soul, however, could be found in his love of music.  He often told his sisters that the words to the song “The End” by the Beatles, symbolized his entire being as he often quoted the line “And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make.”.  That sums up Gregory Gordon Stewart to a tee!

Gregory is survived by his son, John M. Stewart; his two sisters, Evelyn S. Higgason and her husband, Thomas and Ruth Rodriguez and her husband, Ramon; his nieces and nephew, Elizabeth Semidey, Juan Rodriguez and Isabella Rodriguez and his many cousins, friends and coworkers.
