Gilberto L Maria

Mr. Gilberto L. Maria, 64, entered the arms of the Lord on Thursday, April 20, 2023, in the Trinitas Medical Center in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Gilberto, the son of the late Virginia Leao Maria and the late Manuel Maria, was born in Lisbon, Portugal and he came to the United States in 1989, residing in Watchung, New Jersey prior to settling in Elizabeth, New Jersey in 1997. 

Gilberto worked as a welder for Liberty Mechanical Contractors in Newark, New Jersey from 1989 until he retired in 2013.

Throughout his life, Gilberto “lived large”.  He surrounded himself with loving family and friends that he enjoyed spending time with.  You would constantly find him cooking for and feeding everyone, because it gave him great joy.  For himself, as an extension, Gilberto enjoyed eating excellent food and sampling the many fine beverages that life offered, including wine, whiskey, fire water and quality coffee.  His relaxation hobbies included saltwater fishing and of course, watching and rooting for his Portuguese soccer team – Benfica.  Gilberto made the most out of every day of his life & he knew how to enjoy it to the max!

Gilberto is survived by his wife, Orfa Barahona Falcon; his two daughters, Sandra Gras and Catia Kelly; his three grandchildren and his many other relatives, friends and neighbors.

Gilberto was definitely larger than life!  Many hearts are now broken with this unexpected loss, but Gilberto will forever be remembered.
