Anna Hertz Obituary

Mrs. Anna Denci Hertz, 81, died Saturday, July 18, 2020 in the Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center at Plainsboro, New Jersey.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Thursday, July 23rd.  from 6:00-8:00PM, during which the Parastas services take place at 7:00PM.  On Friday, July 24th., from 8:30-9:00AM, everyone will gather in the funeral home where a prayer service will be held at 9:00AM, followed by the Divine Liturgy to be offered in the St. George Byzantine Catholic Church, Linden at 10:00AM.  The prayers of committal will precede her burial in the family plot in St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia, New Jersey.

Mrs. Hertz, the daughter of the late Anna Novak Denci and the late Michael Denci, was born and raised in Linden, New Jersey.  She continued to live in Linden until one year ago, when Mrs. Hertz moved to Monroe Township, New Jersey.

She had been employed as a legal secretary for the Kaplowitz & Weiss law firm in Linden, New Jersey for twenty-six years until 1982.  Then in 1987, Mrs. Hertz returned to the work world, this time   as a secretary for Celwa Products in Elizabeth, New Jersey, where she remained for fifteen years, until her retirement in 2002.

Mrs. Hertz was highly active in her Linden community.  She was a catechism teacher for many years at the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in the Tremley Point section of Linden.  She had been a past officer and member of the Linden School #2 PTA; a past president and member of the St. Ann’s Society of the St. George Byzantine Catholic Church; a past officer and member of the 7th. Ward Democratic Club; a past officer and member of the Linden Citizens Association; a member of the Linden Senior Men & Women’s Club, as well as, a member of the AARP, Linden Chapter #1894.  In her spare time, Mrs. Hertz loved to twirl around, enjoying her polka dancing, and also visiting the various casinos.  She always played the penny slots, sometimes winning and sometimes losing, but always having a ball doing it.  Coupon clipping, flea markets, tricky trays and all-around bargain shopping kept the eagle eyes of Mrs. Hertz pealed for a good buy.  Her favorite tv shows included Jeopardy, the Wheel of Fortune and the hilarious Family Feud.  Mrs. Hertz loved watching football with her husband, Michael, and at one time she was a season ticket holder for her favorite team, the Philadelphia Eagles.  Everyone knew that collecting angels was her passion and she adored sunflowers. Even with all of this, Mrs. Hertz was definitely the happiest when she could simply spend time with her family and friends and lastly, this should come as no surprise to anyone……she loved her sweets!

Predeceased by her brother, John Denci, Mrs. Hertz is survived by her husband of fifty-two years, Michael J. Hertz; her children, Michelle Hertz, Christine Evans and her husband, Joseph, Michael Hertz and Christopher Hertz and his wife, Lauren; her brother Michael Denci and his wife, Marguerite; her five grandchildren, Brittany Anne Hertz, Faryn Evans, Devin Evans and his wife, Marian, Morgan Evans and Rylie Hertz and her two great grandchildren, Kayden Jest and Reign Evans.

As per the regulations imposed through the State of New Jersey, there will now be a maximum of fifty (50) people allowed in the funeral home at one time.  Face protection and social distancing is also required as per state regulations.  We thank you for your understanding during this time of transition.
