Martha Cheverko Stano

Mrs. Martha Cheverko Stano, 95, died Thursday, August 2, 2018 in the Ashbrook Nursing Home in Scotch Plains, New Jersey.

Visitation will take place in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle St., Linden, on Monday, August 6^th. from 9:00 – 10:00AM.  At 10:00AM there will be a prayer service in the funeral home followed by the funeral mass to be offered in St. Elizabeth R.C. Church, Linden at 11:00AM.  Burial will take place in the family plot in St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the American Lung Association, Donation Processing Center, PO Box 7000, Albert Lea, MN 56007.

Mrs. Stano, the daughter of the late Anna Hadzick Cheverko and the late John Cheverko, was born in Beaver Meadows Pennsylvania.  She was a resident of Linden, New Jersey for seventy-four years, before moving to Scotch Plains, New Jersey in 2015.

Mrs. Stano worked as a packer in the packaging department of Schering-Plough Corporation in Kenilworth, NJ for seventeen years, before her retirement in 1985.

When her children were young, Mrs. Stano, a lover of the arts, enjoyed oil painting.  She then became proficient in ceramics and was well known for making and painting expansive Nativity sets, both in color, as well as white and gold.  She graciously shared her talents with her lucky family and friends, who proudly display her gifted Nativity sets during the Christmas holidays.

Predeceased by her husband, Michael S. Stano on March 13, 1983, Mrs. Stano is survived by her two sons; Michael J. Stano and his wife, Marianne and Edward G. Stano and his companion, Darlene Petrasek; her two daughters, Mary Ann Saunders and Agnes T. Stano; her 12 grandchildren; her 19 great-grandchildren; her 1 great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
