Louis “Lou” Scerbo

Mr. Louis “Lou” Scerbo, 92, died Wednesday, January 31, 2018 in the Community Medical Center in Toms River, NJ.

Visitation will take place in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle St., Linden, on Monday, February 5th. from 9:00 – 11:00AM.  At 11:00AM, a funeral prayer service will be offered in the funeral home by the Rev. Jan Kosc.  The burial in the family plot in Rosedale Cemetery in Linden, will be private.

Mr.Scerbo, the son of the late Anna Cantafio Scerbo and the late Frank Scerbo, was born in New Brighton, Pa. and he lived in Elizabeth, NJ for 40 years before moving to Rahway, NJ in 1972.

Mr. Scerbo was a material control expediter for General Motors Inc., in Linden for 34 years until his retirement in 1982.  Prior to his employment at General Motors, Mr. Scerbo worked for Merit Chapman & Scott, a construction and deck builder in New York.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.  Mr. Scerbo was attached to the naval armed guard on merchant ships in the North Atlantic, followed by being placed on a minesweeper in the Pacific.

Mr. Scerbo was an active community member of the Polish National Catholic Church of Holy Family & St. Joseph in Linden and he was the past vice president of its’ Parish Committee for many years.  Mr. Scerbo was also instrumental in organizing the General Motors Linden Salary Retiree’s Club.

Predeceased by his wife, Charlotte Czubowicz Scerbo in 2017, Mr. Scerbo is survived by his brother, Peter V. Scerbo and his wife, Sina; his sister, Mary DiMaggio and her husband, Tony; his sister-in-law, Carolyn Lugris and her husband, Joe and his nieces, nephews and friends.
