Josephine Ann Cardone Mariano
Mrs. Josephine “Chet” Ann Cardone Mariano, 86, fondly known as “Chet”, peacefully passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2017 in her home, surrounded by her family, a testament to their closeness and dedication to each other.
Mrs. Mariano was born on December 9, 1930 in Elizabeth, New Jersey and was one of seven daughters of the late Theresa and the late Nicola Cardone. Upon her marriage, she & her husband, Vincent, started their family in Linden, New Jersey, before moving to South Hutchinson Island, Ft. Pierce, Florida.
Mrs. Mariano spent her early years working as a secretary for the Elizabeth Board of Education. She was a business owner, a loving mother and a loving Nonie. Chet was a devout Catholic and reserved Sundays for family gatherings and large meals. She expressed her love by always having a table filled with food and a home filled with love. Her spaghetti and meatballs were a famous tradition. Chet’s legacy will be her knack for intimately getting to know everyone she met. She loved to share stories of her children and her grandchildren. Chet was proud of her family and that was evident in her conversations. She was a true reporter, a “Chet” to the end.
Mrs. Mariano was predeceased by her sisters, Anna Kurinzi, Antoinette Cusmano, Angie Long, Grace Koenig and Rose DiGirolamo.
Mrs. Mariano is survived by her husband of sixty-three years, Vincent J. Mariano Sr. (VJ); her two sons, Dr. Vincent J. Mariano and his wife, Lisa of Longmeadow, Massachusetts and Nicholas P. Mariano, Esq. and his wife, Karen of Montgomery, New Jersey and her sister, Ida Porada. Chet lives on through her grandchildren, Alissa and Michael and Kylie and Kristina.
A memorial visitation will take place in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle St., Linden, on Saturday, August 26th. from 9:00 – 10:00AM. At the conclusion of the visitation, there will be a prayer service in the funeral home at 10:00AM, followed by the funeral mass to be offered in St. Theresa R.C. Church, Linden at 11:00AM. Entombment will take place in the family niche in St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.
