Yolanda Mateo Obituary

Yolanda I. Mateo, 57, died at the Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey, surrounded by the love and tears of her family.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Monday, September 6th. from 3:00-7:00PM.  The cremation in Rosehill Crematory, Linden, will be private.

Yolanda, the daughter of the late Aurora “Lolin” Rodriguez and the late Eleuterio “Teyo” Mateo, was born in Coamo, Puerto Rico.  Yolanda came to the mainland United States in 1979 and she lived in the Bronx, New York before settling in Linden, New Jersey in 2015.

Yolanda was a crafting wizard; she could put together pieces of cloth, paper or other materials and make objects look beautiful.  She also loved to cruise, anywhere and everywhere…it didn’t matter to Yolanda where she was going….she just truly enjoyed the cruise ship experience.  In truth, Yolanda really spent most of her time with the loves of her life, her grandchildren.  She also was known to have very special relationships with her nephews, and she referred to them, as her “life heart”.  In this family, Yolanda was party central.  She loved to organize, plan and have parties.  Whether it was a special occasion or just a spur of the moment get together, Yolanda could put a terrific party together in a flash.  If that party involved baking, then that was just icing on the cake for Yolanda, because she loved to bake, especially for the kids.

In addition to the recent loss of her parents, Yolanda also lost her brother, José Arnaldo ‘Nardy” Mateo Rodriguez.

Yolanda is survived by her husband, Carlos A. Ramos; her daughter, Ivette Zwernemann and her husband, Andrew; her two grandchildren, Raquel Zwernemann and Andrew Zwernemann; her eight brothers and sisters, Anna Iris “Iris” Mateo Rodriguez, Isabelita “Isa” Mateo Rodriguez, Rosa Idalia “Dalia” Mateo Rodriguez, Eleuterio “Junito” Mateo Rodriguez, Jr., Nilda “ Nildy” A. Mateo Rodriguez, Luis Alberto “Berty” Mateo Rodriguez, Carlos Luis “Charly” Mateo Rodriguez and Juan José “Juan” Mateo Rodriguez; her numerous nieces, nephews; her other family members and friends.

Yolanda was a very special lady with an expansive love of life, a smile on her face and joy in her heart.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and loved her.
