Walter, the son of the late Stephanie Zolnierowicz Tylicki (December 1, 1911 – June 4, 1975) and the late Walter Tylicki (March 7, 1913 – April 27, 1983) was born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey and he attended Public School Number 34 and Snyder High School.  After graduating from Snyder High School, Walter continued his educational pursuits at Jersey City State College (JCSC).  Upon earning his Bachelor of Arts degree, Walter was hired by the Linden Board of Education in 1963 to teach mathematics at Linden High School (LHS).

Over the years, the Linden Board of Education promoted Walter to Supervisor of Mathematics and Director of Secondary Education.  Later, he was in charge of K-12 mathematics and science.  It was at this time that Walter established a long term relationship between the Linden Public Schools and the Merck Institute of Science Education.  Under Superintendent of Schools Joseph Martino, Walter attained the position of Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent.

During his career, Walter earned a Master of Arts degree at JCSC, a Master of Science degree at the State University of New York at Buffalo, New York and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Nova University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  Toward the end of his career, Walter was asked to be an Instructor in the Graduate Division of the College of St. Elizabeth in Morristown and he taught about the teaching of mathematics and science, for a number of semesters.

During his college years, Walter lived in Woodridge, New Jersey and later on, at the time of his marriage, he settled in Linden, New Jersey where he resided until the time of his death.

At Linden High School, Walter met his wife, Stella Kazanowski. Walter and Stella just shared their 55th wedding anniversary on February 21, 1965.   Over the years, they also shared many common interests.  First, in various organizations related to the teaching profession, followed by their work to improve adult education in Linden.  Walter became the Director of the Linden Adult School and later both Walter and Stella were active members of the Linden Adult Education Committee.  For many years, they have been active in their church community; St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Roman Catholic Church in Linden.  Walter and Stella both got involved in the many church fund raising and organizational activities.  Walter helped form the first Parish Council; Stella was a Parish Trustee and together they could always be found making pierogi for Easter, the church picnic and Christmas fund raisers.    In 1982, Walter became a member of the Linden Kiwanis Club.  Over the years, Walter served the Kiwanis as their Club President, a member of their Board of Directors, as well as, his volunteering to be on countless committees.  Walter was always very proud of the accomplishments of the Kiwanis Club and he enjoyed the friendship of his many fellow Kiwanians.  Travel was an obsession with Stella and Walter, having visited 100 countries across 6 continents in addition to all 50 states. Walter was particularly proud of hitting the 100 mark in the countries visited. He also liked to  road trip and both Walter and Stella crossed the country no less than 11 times by car, in addition to, dozens of trips to Florida - visiting friends and family along the way. Walter immensely enjoyed the arts with season tickets to the Metropolitan Opera and New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and he attended dozens of Broadway and Off Broadway shows. In quieter times, Walter loved to read, garden and play an occasional round of golf.   Of all of his accomplishments and interests, Walter found his greatest joy in spending time with his two grandchildren Olivia and Lily. He was often caught on the beach, building sand mountains and castles to their hearts desire or covering miles and miles of ground at Disney. Walter was an extremely proud and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

In addition to his parents, Walter was predeceased by his granddaughter, Lily Cate Love (August 15, 2008 – April 23, 2016).

Walter is survived by his wife, Stella Kazanowski Tylicki; his son, Edward Tylicki; his daughter, Donna Love; his son-in-law, Chip Love; his granddaughter, Olivia Grace Love and his many friends, neighbors and colleagues.
