Steven V. (Koufomichalis) Kallis

Mr. Steven V. (Koufomichalis) Kallis, 81, died Sunday, August 7, 2016, in his home in Linden, New Jersey, with his loving family by his side.

Visitation will take place in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle St., Linden, on Thursday, August 11^th. from 6:00 – 8:00PM.  The cremation in Rosehill Crematory, Linden, New Jersey, will be private.

Mr. Kallis, the first born of eight children of the late Panayota Devouros Koufomichalis and the late Vasilios Koufomichalis, was born in Sparta, Greece.  As a young man living in Greece, he served in his birth country’s army.  Mr. Kallis came to the United States in 1962 and settled in Linden, New Jersey, forty-five years ago,

Mr. Kallis was the owner, operator and accomplished chef in various local diners, among them, the Bayway Diner and the US 1 Diner, for forty-nine years before he retired in 2005.

He was predeceased by his two sons, Vasilios Koufomichalis in 1986 and Peter Zielinski in 2016.

Mr. Kallis is survived by his son, Nickolas Koufomichalis; his daughter, Panayota Koufomichalis; his three brothers, Nickolas Koufomichalis, Gregory Koufomichalis and Harry Koufomichalis; his four sisters, Stavroula Koufomichalis, Gregoria Koufomichalis, Zoi Koufomichalis and Panayota Koufomichalis; his nine grandchildren; his twelve great grandchildren and his former wife, Grace Zielinski.
