Ms. Saundra Jones-Browne, 69, died suddenly on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, in her home in Linden, New Jersey.
Visitation is on Wednesday, June 23rd. from 6:00 – 8:00 PM in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden. The reading of Saundra’s obituary, the delivery of her eulogy and the sharing of personal memories will take place during the visitation. The cremation in Rosehill Crematory, Linden, will be private.
Saundra, the daughter of the late Sara Singleton Jones and the late David Jones, was born in Georgetown, South Carolina. She resided in East Orange and Edison, New Jersey for many years prior to moving to Linden sixteen years ago.
Saundra was employed by the Archdiocese of Newark as a supervisor of the Matching Gifts Division for twenty-six years until her retirement in 2001.
In her free time, Saundra enjoyed bowling with her daughter and together, they were members of various bowling leagues. Shopping was her guilty pleasure and Saundra additionally indulged in many trips to the Atlantic City casinos, where the slot machines were her game of choice. Saundra was the social butterfly of the family, gathering everyone together, even if it was just sitting and talking in the backyard. She most definitely was the “Gatekeeper” and the glue that held the family together. Saundra’s family meant the world to her. She would do anything for them, and she was always there with love, support, and guidance. Saundra’s essence and her presence will be missed terribly by all who knew her and loved her.
Predeceased by her sister, Sharon Jones, Saundra is survived by her daughter, Sheila A. Olds and her husband, Tony; her son, Sheldon E. Jones; her life-long partner, Ulysses Sam Brown; her two sisters, Judith Washington and Monetta Jones; her brother, Derrick Jones; her nine grandchildren, Anthony and his fiancé, Darlene, Durrell, Daunte, Deshawn, Shaniquah, Ebony, Shaniyah, Zaniyah and Vaness “DJ”, Jr.; her six great grandchildren, Vincent, Jr., Jalen, Delasia, Naseem, Nevaeh and Anthony, Jr.; her very special cousin who she loved like a brother, Willie Tucker; her very dearest best friend who she thought of as a sister, Johnnie Mae Wright; a host of nieces, nephews and close friends and finally, special love to all her daughters who touched her life in their own special ways – Felicia Alston-Singleton, Taheera Muhammad and Rochelle Butler.
