Mr. Ronald S. Shrum, Sr., died Tuesday, September 29, 2020 in his home surrounded by love.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation which will be held in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Thursday, October 1st. from 9:00-11:00AM, immediately followed by a prayer service in the funeral home at 11:00AM. The burial in St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia will be private for the family only. Mr. Shrum, the son of the late Mildred Zlatovich Shrum and the late Eugene Shrum, was born in Stockdale, Pennsylvania. He grew up in California, Pennsylvania, where he lived until moving to Linden, New Jersey over fifty years ago.
Mr. Shrum worked at and eventually became the owner and operator of Lefty’s Tavern in Linden for more than thirty-five years and he retired in 2000.
Mr. Shrum was a member of the Son of the American Legion (SAL) Post 102 and the Senior Citizens Club, both of Linden. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing, as well as, watching the game of golf. Mr. Shrum also was a generous participant in the NJ Lottery. Like most of us, he was waiting for his turn to “hit it big”!
Mr. Shrum was predeceased by his son, Ronald S. Shrum, Jr. (1986); a grandson, Brandon Shrum (2000) and a brother.
Mr. Shrum is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Grace E. Markovitch Shrum; his daughter, Helen J. Berlinski and her husband, William; his son, Michael J. Shrum; his six brother and sisters; his seven grandchildren and his five great grandchildren.
As per the regulations imposed through the State of New Jersey, there will now be a maximum of one hundred (100) people allowed in the funeral home at one time. Face protection is also required as per state regulations. We thank you for your understanding during this time of transition.
