Ricardo Newby Obituary

Mr. Ricardo Javan Newby, 39, left behind many broken hearts when he unexpectedly passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2025.

Born in St. Catherine, Jamaica, to Leonard Newby and Mareta Brown, Ricardo brought his vibrant spirit from the islands to the streets of Harlem, the Bronx, and eventually New Jersey, where he made his home.

He built a remarkable 21-year career at Foot Locker, where he was more than just a leader, he was a mentor, a motivator, and a friend.  His infectious laugh, sharp style, and unwavering support left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of working alongside him.

In his spare time Ricardo enjoyed building things; he was a “Jack of all trades”.  Some of his projects included rebuilding his garage where he formatted it into a gym to work out and keep healthy.  He also was skilled enough to turn out a small, but sturdy table for his boys.  Not to be outdone with toolbox projects, Ricardo also had two green thumbs.  He loved to garden - growing not only an assortment of vegetables that his family could incorporate into their meals, but also beautiful, fragrant flowers that filled the air in his home with their wonderful aroma that made everyone smile.  However, everyone knew that the greatest joy in Ricardo’s life was doing anything and everything with his family, whether it was celebrating with a big holiday dinner or having a simple BBQ, sitting around the backyard, soaking up the sunshine as his kids were playing and laughing around him.  Life for Ricardo didn’t get better than that!

In addition to his parents, Ricardo is survived by the love of  his life, his fiancé, Sasha Palacios; his three children, Brii, Brandon and Blake; his four siblings, Kevon Fritzroy Scale, Jerome Omarie Phil Morris, Danielle Newby and Josiah Allen Joshua Newby and Ricardo’s many nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, co-workers, neighbors and friends.

Ricardo’s family has been turned upside down and inside out by this tremendous loss.  Let us remember all of them in our prayers and offer them your love and support as Ricardo’s family now tries to find their way in life without him.  They will need all your help!

Ricardo was the center of life for his family, and he had an abundance of love for everyone in his circle.  He will be deeply missed, but Ricardo never be forgotten and he will be forever loved.

In accordance with the family’s wishes, all the funeral services will be private.
