Ms. Olimpia E. Solis Mancilla de Rubin, 83, entered the arms of the Lord, surrounded by His heavenly angels on Monday, April 29, 2024.
We respectfully request that no one arrive at the funeral home prior to the posted visitation times, so as not to intrude on the family’s private time.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Wednesday, May 8th. from 5:00-9:00PM. On Thursday, May 9th. at 9:45AM, everyone will gather directly at St. Genevieve’s Roman Catholic, Church in Elizabeth where a funeral mass will be offered at 10:00AM. The prayers of committal will precede Olimpia’s burial in the family plot in Rosehill Cemetery, Linden.
Olimpia, the daughter of the late Clara Solis and the late Buenaventura Mancilla was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala. In 1956 she arrived in the United States, living in Brooklyn, New York City, New York for thirty-two years, followed by her residence in Elizabeth for twenty-five years and Miami, Florida for ten years, before settling in Ruskin, Florida one year ago.
Olimpia was a printer and packer for Miller Printing Company in Roselle Park, New Jersey for twelve years prior to her retirement in 1994. Her previous career spanned two decades as Olimpia was a gifted seamstress, who along with her sister, operated their own sewing & tailoring business.
In her down time, Olimpia loved to watch television, especially the shows “To Catch A Smuggler”, “The Incredible Dr. Pol” and even her favorite novellas in Spanish. Music was a part of her soul! On every trip to Guatemala, Olimpia was met with the marimba and Mariachi playing for hours simply to celebrate her visit. Living in the various warm climates increased her appreciation for the delightful ocean breezes, which she so loved, and the sandy beaches underneath her feet. With the devil in her smiling eyes, Olimpia was a tremendous prankster who was always looking for ways to make everyone laugh. She also had a not-so-secret passionate love affair with dark chocolate - a true chocoholic! If you ever brought her some to indulge in, you were automatically one of her favorite people. But above and beyond all of this, Olimpia was the best Ma in the whole wide world! She had a huge appetite for life coupled with an even bigger one for her family.
Olimpia is survived by her children, Darlene Taffanelli, Cesar Rubin and Olga Martinez; her five grandchildren, Timothy Torres, Tiffany Feliciano, Clarissa Rubin, Ava Rubin and Nolan Rubin; her sister, Maria E. Ordoñez and her numerous family members, neighbors and friends.
She was the center of life for them, adored everyone in her circle and loved them all….Olimpia was priceless! She will be missed beyond measure, will always be in our hearts and may Olimpia now live in eternal glory with the Lord.
