The visitation for Mrs. Odette Desir, 83, who died on Sunday, October 27, 2024, will take place on Saturday, November 9th. from 8:30 – 9:30AM in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1324 Woodland Avenue, Plainfield, New Jersey 07060. The service, conducted by the Congregation Elder will begin at 9:30AM until 10:30AM when we will gather to escort Odette to Rosehill Cemetery, Linden for her burial at 12:15PM in the family plot.
Odette Desir made a good name for herself before God and men! She lived with Godly devotion and profound self-respect. In the memory of her children, she is engraved as a model of faith, resilience, self-discipline, a caring mother, and a capable wife. She loved people! Those who knew her are touched by her joyful spirit, her immense generosity, her warm hospitality, and her principled love. Others were drawn by her calm demeanor, her understanding of life, and the strength of her character shaped by a nurtured spirituality.
Odette got baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1965. In August 1966, she married Andre Abner Desir, a man of exceptional faith whose virtues she complemented. Their marriage thrived until his death in 2010. Together, they raised seven children: Wesner, Abdiel, Abner Fils, Thony,
Thamar, Samuel, and Benjamin. Odette migrated to the United States from Haiti in 1984 and worked tirelessly to bring over her children. Despite the social challenges of living in the U.S., she remained committed to family unity and personal ethics while endeavoring to instill the same values into the hearts of her children.
Odette endured a difficult illness, but pushed through with grace. She fought the fine fight! Being a regular pioneer for the past 15 years was her therapy and the resurrection hope was her secure anchor. She loved social gatherings and often ,with a contagious smile, engaged others in singing along oldies that she memorized from her youth. At the annual family vacations, she was often the centerpiece and enjoyed basking into the love of her children along with their spouses and grandchildren. Odette is survived by her older sister, Nanotte Cadet St Cyr, and her only brother: Prosper Cadet.
May all glory and honor go to Jehovah for producing a mother of Odette's caliber and may her name be inscribed indelibly in Jehovah’s book of life!
May her children, grandchildren, her son-in-law, her daughters-in-law, her sister, her brother, her nephews, her nieces, and all her friends be able to enjoy her company again after the resurrection for an eternity under perfect conditions (John 5:28,29)!
