Nilsa, the daughter of the late Mariana Rodriguez and the late Dimas Lopez, was born in Yauco, Puerto Rico. She came to the mainland United States in 1964, when she was fifteen years old and she has resided in Plainfield, New Jersey ever since.
Nilsa was the owner and operator of Freddie’s Record Shop in Plainfield, New Jersey, for ten years, from 1981 to 1991. After that, Nilsa worked as a delivery person for Abigal Press in New York City, New York, from 1992 to 2004.
The essence of Nilsa was sparkly, fun, and energetic. She was a powerhouse of a strong, independent woman, who although widowed young, persevered to raise her family. Nilsa dedicated her life to her family and her spiritual community in the service of Jehovah, where she was known as “Sister Nilsa” or "Hermanita Nilsa". Nilsa was very diligent with her religious studies, most notably teaching others about the Bible. She was known as a “precursora” and her gifts were shared with many folks. She would often sit to have conversation with them and worked to help others in whatever ways she could, most notably in areas of food and clothing, always lending a helping hand. She had a huge heart; always thinking of others before herself. Even with all these activities going on in her life, Nilsa’s dedication to her family was beyond comparison. For her, family was everything! Cooking, laughing, talking, family gatherings of all shapes and sizes brought joy to her heart and a smile to her precious face. It was clear to all that she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Nilsa deeply believed that no matter what else would happen in her life, she was truly blessed because of the family she had around her, where the love and care was mutually exchanged. She was artistic and blessed with the talents of many innate gifts. Nilsa's favorite thing was to sew, especially clothing. Beyond that, true to her giving nature, she made thousands of masks during Covid that she shipped throughout the world for those in need. She was renowned for her jewelry making abilities & every piece Nilsa made was different, colorful, and made with love. Family and friends wore her pieces with great pride in knowing that Nilsa made it especially for them. She loved to “thrift”, not only for herself, but also for everyone in the family. Nilsa always kept an eagle eye out for a good find!
She was predeceased by her husband, Freddie William Saez on June 2, 1987; her two brothers, Dimas Lopez Rodriguez and Edwin Lopez Rodriguez and her grandson, Devin L. Harrison.
