Minguet Philidor, 74, of Newark, New Jersey, came upon his sunset on December 21st, 2024 at Newark Beth Israel Hospital, comforted by the love of his family and those closest in his life.
We respectfully request that no one arrive at the funeral home prior to the posted visitation times, so as not to intrude on the family’s private time.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Saturday, January 4th from 9:30-11:30AM. Services will be held during the visitation times. Interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery, Linden, NJ, at approximately 12:00PM.
Minguet was born to parents Mildor and Adele (Guillaume) Philidor on June 26th, 1950 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He spent his early years growing up in Haiti with his family, and worked as a young man there before emigrating to the United States in 1978. He arrived in East Orange, NJ, and spent many years in Newark, NJ, before relocating again to Irvington, NJ, before finally settling and retiring in Newark, NJ, once again.
Minguet worked over 20 years as a steel worker in Hillside, NJ, at Gerber Metal. After his “retirement,” Minguet continued to work various security jobs as “something to do.” He was always a problem solver and everyone’s “go-to” man when they had an issue; whether it was financial, emotional, mechanical, he was always there. Minguet always had a solution, and ALWAYS had a plan. He was a provider, and protector of his family, and continued to be there for all of them through the years. He especially cared deeply for all of his children. Although at times, he could be stern, and offer “tough love,” Minguet was always truthful and straightforward.
Minguet was caring and kind, and to those closest to him, he had a funny side as well. In his younger years, he enjoyed soccer, both playing and watching. He also really enjoyed classic “Italian Mob” movies, like the Godfather, Goodfellas, and Casino. There were days he would have all three Godfather movies playing back-to-back. He also like TV programs such as Judge Judy. Most important in Minguet’s life was family, and he would do anything for them.
Minguet predeceased by his parents Mildor and Adele Philidor, and his siblings Miriam, Lumene, and Menocal. He is survived by his seven children, Marlene Philidor and her husband Darnell Andrews, Minguet Philidor Jr. and his wife Telisha, Marshall Philidor and his wife Christina, Maxwell Philidor and his partner Sasha Burney, Margaret Germain and her husband Jean, Marlon Philidor, and Makayla Philidor, his siblings MarieAlice, and Yvonne, the mothers of his children Gertrude Philidor and Nancy Pinard, his nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many other nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Minguet was a true light within this world, and although his light has dimmed, it shines even brighter now in each and every one of those he loved. May he rest in eternal peace.
