The prayers of committal will precede Mrs. Scheuer’s burial in the family plot in Hazel Wood Cemetery in Colonia, New Jersey.
Millie, the daughter of the late Anna Wanskas Bukofsky and the late Stanley Bukofsky, was born in the family home in Linden, New Jersey. She lived in Linden until 1996 when she relocated to Toms River, New Jersey and then in 2016, Millie settled in Green Brook, New Jersey.
Her career spanned forty years as a clerical worker and dispatcher for AT&T, formerly known as New Jersey Bell and Millie definitely earned her retirement in 1989.
Millie had a variety of interest and activities to fill her day. She enjoyed having a day out, visiting Atlantic City to “feed the machines” and have a lovely lunch. You could even find her at the racetrack, betting on the ponies to the point where her family and friends lovingly called her ‘Diamond Mil’! Throughout her entire life, Millie was a voracious reader and of course, romance novels were at the top of her list and definitely anything by the author, Danielle Steel. It was with great sadness that her health made her put those books down for good about six months ago. Anyone that knew Millie, also knew that she was a ‘girly girl’. She would never go anywhere, even to lunch, without wearing one of her favorite shades of lipstick along with the scent from one of her numerous perfume bottles. Millie was generous beyond means and she truly enjoyed simply being with her family, especially her grandchildren who brought never ending joy to her heart and a smile to her lips. Even with all these attributes and activities, Millie had a heart of gold, the patience of a saint and the love of a lifetime for her late husband, William F. Scheuer who died on January 6, 2010. William had a stroke sixteen years earlier and he was unable to work. Millie became his constant companion and caregiver. She was fondly known for always saying “wait a minute” when her husband asked for assistance. Even though she was already headed in his direction, it always came out of her mouth and just became a running joke among the family.
In addition to her husband, Millie was predeceased by her brother, Edward Bukofsky.
Millie is survived by her two daughters, Lorraine S. Helmes and her husband, John and Diane E. Scheuer; her two grandchildren, Mallory A. Helmes and Kelly L. Helmes and a host of neighbors and friends.
Millie was simply a character who had such love for everyone that she encountered. She will be deeply missed, but Millie will never be forgotten.
