Mr. Michael Stanley Mnich, Jr., 85, died suddenly on Monday, June 7, 2021 in his home, with his wife by his side.
Visitation is on Friday, June 11th. from 3:00 – 7:00 PM in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden. On Saturday, June 12th. family and friends will gather in the funeral home at 8:30AM where a prayer service will be held at 9:00AM followed by the funeral mass to be offered in St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Linden at 10:00AM. The prayers of committal will precede Mr. Mnich’s burial in the family plot in St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia, New Jersey.
Mr. Mnich, the son of the late Helen Dmitrzak Mnich and the late Michael Stanley Mnich, Sr. was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He resided in Elizabeth until his marriage in 1960, when he moved to Linden, New Jersey.
Mr. Mnich was employed by the City of Linden where he was a member of the Linden Police Department, serving on the force for 36 years. He achieved the rank of Sergeant prior to his retirement in 1998.
Mr. Mnich proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War from December 7, 1954 to December 6, 1957.
In his free time, Mr. Mnich loved to travel and he visited places all over the world with his wife. He enjoyed sports and he was huge fan of the New York Mets baseball team. Personally, he was an avid bowler and he participated with various leagues in Linden for over twenty years. Always exercising his mind, Mr. Mnich kept alert and active by doing crossword puzzles on a daily basis.
Mr. Mnich is survived by his wife of sixty years, Nellie Balick Mnich; his son, Michael Alan Mnich and his wife, Jennifer; his brother, Edward Mnich and his three grandchildren, Erica Mnich and her husband, Michael Barone, Samantha Mnich and Thomas Mnich.
