Marie Zebro

Mrs. Marie Gelis Zebro, 103, died Wednesday, January 26, 2022, in her home, surrounded by the love of her family, from both near and far.

Mrs. Zebro, the daughter of the late Anna Gelis and the late John Gelis, was born in Jersey City, New Jersey and she has resided in Linden, New Jersey for the past sixty-five years.

She was employed as a factory worker for Simmons Company in Elizabeth for forty years and she started to enjoy her retirement in 1981.

Predeceased by her husband, Joseph Zebro and her daughter-in-law, Kris Zebro, Mrs. Zebro is survived by her four sons, John Shamus and his wife, Linda, Richard Shamus and his wife, Helen, Mark Zebro and his wife, Susan, and Joseph Zebro; her sister, Margaret Paterek; her nine grandchildren; her seventeen great grandchildren and her three great great grandchildren.

Mrs. Zebro’s life revolved around her family – loving them beyond measure and spending as much time as possible with them, doing everyday silly things or celebrating big occasions and events.  She was a fixture in the local neighborhood because Mrs. Zebro was a great neighbor who always kept an eye out for others or would stop and chat with everyone.

The family is filled with great sadness at the loss of their Matriarch.  She filled their world with joy, laughter and smiles for as long as they can remember.  Mrs. Zebro will be forever in their hearts.   

With respect to Mrs. Zebro’s wishes, her cremation in Rosehill Crematory and the burial of her cremains in Rosehill Cemetery, both in Linden, will be private.
