Maria Kozar Obituary

Mrs. Maria Apiar Kozar, 69, died Monday, October 19, 2020 in the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway, New Jersey.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation which will be held in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Sunday, October 25th. from 2:00-4:00PM.  There will be a prayer service in the funeral home at 3:00PM offered by the clergy from St. Hedwig Roman Catholic Church, Elizabeth. The cremation in Rosehill Crematory, Linden, will be private.

Maria, the daughter of the late Maria Holub Apiar and the late Jan Apiar, was born in Jastraibie, Slovakia.  She came to the United States in July of 1969 and she lived in Rahway, Linden, Edison, and Martinsville, all in New Jersey, before returning to Linden a few years ago.

Maria had many facets in her life.  She loved to garden, growing both vegetables to grace her table and flowers, to enjoy their beauty and aroma.  Gladiola’s were known to be her favorite flower.  Maria’s gardening also went hand in hand with her other passions, cooking, and baking.  She excelled in both!  In her spare time, Maria enjoyed reading books of all different genre’s and she especially appreciated the art of poetry.  Her other form of relaxation was watching the television.  Some of Maria’s favorite shows were Dancing with the Stars and American Idol and if there was any James Bond movie being shown, then Maria was glued to the television.  Even with all of this going on, Maria’s greatest joy in life was her husband and her two sons.  She adored the time spent staying home while her sons were growing up.  Even as everyone got older, that never diminished the love and devotion that Maria would give to her family.  These may seem like amazingly simple traits, but that is what made Maria so special.

Maria is survived by her husband of forty-seven years, Dusan Kozar; her two sons, Dennis P. Kozar and Christopher J. Kozar; her two brothers, Gus Apiar and his wife, Diane and Martin Apiar and his wife, Viera and Maria’s other family, friends and neighbors.

As per the regulations imposed through the State of New Jersey, there will now be a maximum of one hundred (100) people allowed in the funeral home at one time.  Face protection is also required as per state regulations.  We thank you for your understanding during this time of transition.
