Mrs. Maria Fernanda Correia Seabra, 84, entered the arms of her Lord & Savior escorted by His heavenly angels on Thursday, March 26, 2026.
We respectfully request that no one arrive at the funeral home prior to the posted visitation times, so as not to intrude on the family’s private time.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Monday, March 30th. from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. On Tuesday, March 31st. from 8:30-8:45AM everyone will gather directly at Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church in Elizabeth where the funeral mass will be offered at 9:00AM. The prayers of committal will precede Maria’s burial in the family plot in St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.
Maria, the daughter of Joãn Bento Correia and Ilda Ferreira Lopes was born in Santa Comba Dão, Portugal. She arrived in the United States in 1973 and lived in North Newark, New Jersey for several years prior to settling in Carteret, New Jersey thirty-eight years ago.
A talented seamstress, Maria was a key part of the family business, A & A Fashions in Newark that produced all sorts of women’s clothing.
Maria never seemed to slow down. She was always cooking up a storm to make sure that there was enough food for the “kids” and even some extra to pack up and take home with them. Her specialties were of course, those recipes that she carried in her heart when she left Portugal to come to the United States. Traditions, even with food preparation, were very important to Maria. In her younger years, she insisted on hosting all the special celebrations and holiday dinners. She also enjoyed spending time in her garden, working with the earth and growing delicious vegetables and beautiful fragrant flowers, that wafted about the air in her home. Carnations were her special favorites! Maria’s quiet time, if you want to call it that, was spent enjoying all her Spanish and Portuguese telenovelas and every morning she started her day off with watching the Portuguese news stations. It was the biggest joke in the family that anyone mentioned “road trip” or that they even had to drive around the corner to the store, Maria was ready and waiting to hit the road with then. She loved to take the ride, no matter where it led and the front passenger seat was always reserved for her.
Maria unfortunately had her share of losses in her life; her husband, Antonio Gouveia Seabra in 1993, her son, Paulo J.C. Seabra in 2020 and her grandson, Jason Seabra Ramos in 2021.
Maris is survived by her amazing family…..her four children, Jose Seabra and his wife, Maria Elena Nunez Seabra, Ana Seabra Pereira and her husband, Antonio Pereira, Fernanda Seabra Ramos and her husband, Alvaro Ramos and Antonio Seabra; her four grandchildren, Steven Ramos, Sara Sebra and her husband, Francisco Millan Paz, Anthony Pereira and his wife, Danna Agudelo Valbuena and Ashley Pereira; her three great grandchildren, Sebastian Antonio Ramos, Katalina Nicole Ramos and Thiago Millan Seabra and Maria’s many friends, neighbors and members of her church family.
Maria was the guiding light in her family that has now dimmed. Let us offer our love and prayers for her entire family as they now learn to navigate life without Maria. She had an abundance of love for everyone in her circle, and she will be deeply missed, but Maria can never be forgotten. Her lessons about life, love, loss and her vitality for living will carry on as her legacy for generations to come. Rest in Peace, Maria.
