Madeline Schmidt Obituary

Madeline (Malovany) Schmidt, 80, of Linden, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024, at Aristacare in Linden. Madeline was born on February 7, 1944 to parents Frank and Estelle (Sawczyk) Malovany, in Newark, NJ. She spent her younger years in the Irvington area growing up, and she attended Irvington High School. Madeline moved to a few places, but settled in Linden in the 1980’s where she has remained the past 40 years. During that time, she had come to know and love her neighbors and friends in the area, and they became her second family.

Madeline worked as an appliance specialist in Home Depot in Linden prior to retirement for about 15 years. After she retired, Madeline spent a lot of time reading all kinds of materials, such as books, novels, magazines, newspapers, and biographies. She enjoyed learning all that she could from reading, and was always picking up some new information or knowledge. The only thing she enjoyed more than reading was people. She absolutely loved to talk with people and have genuine conversations. She’d share what she had read recently, or even a new restaurant she learned about from the paper. Madeline loved socializing so much that she would frequent her salon quite often, where she grew very close to a few of the workers and patrons, and they all formed a strong bond amongst one another.

In true form with being a “social butterfly,” Madeline liked to go to new places to eat, and in her younger years, loved dancing and disco. She also was a bit of a shopper, and would showcase her new clothes or earrings or jewelry that she had just gotten amongst her friends. Madeline was truly a kind hearted person, and a blast to be around. She will be extremely missed, and never forgotten.

Madeline is predeceased by her parents Frank and Estelle Malovany, and her brother Arthur Malovany. She is survived by a group of friends who cared so much for her in this life; Dawn, Marcia, Dorothy, Kim, Mary, Deborah, Missy, and Jay, and many other acquaintances that she had made through the years.

In respect of Madeline’s wishes, her cremation will remain private. A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.

Although Madeline is no longer with us, her bright personality and caring spirit will remain in the hearts of her friends forever. May she find peace in her eternal rest.
