Luis Medina Obituary

Mr. Luis Medina, 67, died Thursday, August 19, 2021, in the Palmetto General Hospital in Hialeah, Florida.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden, New Jersey on Monday, August 30th. from 4:00-8:00PM.  On Tuesday, August 31st., at 9:30AM, everyone will start to gather in the funeral home where a prayer service will be offered at 10:00AM, by Reverend Jozef Krajnak from the Divine Mercy Parish of Rahway, New Jersey.  We will then form the traditional procession to go to Rosedale Cemetery in Linden and the prayers of committal, tendered by Reverend Krajnak, will precede Mr. Medina’s burial in the family plot.

Mr. Medina, the son of the late Carmen Maria Colon Medina and the late Joseph Manuel Medina was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York.  He resided there for forty-two years before moving to Florida twenty-five years ago, where he settled in the city of Hialeah.

Mr. Medina was employed by the Miami-Dade Water & Sewer Department, in Miami, Florida, in the customer service area for fifteen years prior to his retirement in 2016.

Mr. Medina thoroughly enjoyed spending his free time in a variety of ways.  He knew his way around the various marinas, and he was always up for the adventure of saltwater fishing.  Sports were a large part of his life and Mr. Medina was a huge sports fan, especially watching basketball, baseball, and football, whether it be at the college level or the professionals.  Two of his favorite teams were the National Football League New York Jets (Go Gang Green!) and the Major League Baseball New York Mets (The Amazins!). Mr. Medina, on the softer side, was a lover of Latin music, including the various genres of Salsa, Tango and Merengue.  Even with all these activities, the most important part of Mr. Medina’s life was the simple act of spending time with his family and friends.  It didn’t matter what they were doing, even if it was nothing at all;  this time brought Mr. Medina great joy to his heart and peace to his mind.  For Mr. Medina, there was nothing better on earth, than that!

Predeceased by his wife, Jeanette Medina on March 26, 2001, Mr. Medina is survived by his son, Luis Antonio Medina; his brother, Ulises J. Medina; his two granddaughters, Jasmine A. Medina and Nevaeh D. DeFranco; his four nieces, Jennifer Medina Canaletich, Christina Cavanaugh, Kimberly Medina and Nichelle Medina; his nephew, Joseph Medina; his partner, Maria Marrero and her son, Anthony, and Mr. Medina’s many friends and neighbors.  Mr. Medina will truly be missed by all who loved him, and he will never be forgotten.
