Mrs. Lidia D. Giraudy, 94, entered the arms of her Lord, surrounded by the love and care of her family on Saturday, September 7, 2024.
We respectfully request that no one arrive at the funeral home prior to the posted visitation times, so as not to intrude on the family’s private time.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Friday, September 13th. from 5:30-7:30PM. At 6:00PM there will be a prayer service in the funeral home by the clergy from Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary/Saint Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Elizabeth. The cremation in Rosehill Crematory will be private.
Lidia, the daughter of the late Luis Giraudy and the late Victoria Despaigne was born in Santiago de Cuba. She came to the United States in 1980, living in various places in New Jersey prior to settling in Rahway, ten years ago.
Lidia was employed as a paraprofessional for the Newark Board of Education for a number of years before enjoying her well-deserved retirement.
In her spare time, Lidia loved to sew and in her early years, she crafted many costumes for her grandchildren’s dance recitals. She also tried her hand at knitting and was known for her sweaters, but truth be told, there were often a lot of unfinished projects. Anyone who visited Lidia was met with the most delicious aromas since she loved to cook, especially her traditional Cuban foods and no one ever left Lidia’s home hungry. Also, as silly as this may seem, Lidia thoroughly enjoyed driving her car – it didn’t matter where or how far she was going, she just loved to drive. Most importantly, Lidia was the family caretaker, offering advice to many and providing care whenever needed. Her true calling in life was to make everyone around her feel better and that is why Lidia was so loved.
Predeceased by her husband, Pedro Pascual, Lidia is survived by her beloved daughter, Caridad Pascual who was always by her mom’s side; her three grandchildren, Jose Alvarez, Lydia Alvarez, Cary Fields and her husband, Michael; her two great grandchildren, Alexander Alvarez and Mychaela Fields; her sister, Yolanda Ramierz; her several nieces and nephews and Lidia’s friends and neighbors, both here and in Cuba.
Lidia was the center of life for her family, and she had an abundance of love for everyone in her circle. A one-of-a-kind woman, Lidia will be deeply missed, but she will remain in our hearts forever.
