Mrs. Katherine C. Massas Diamandis, 88, entered the arms of the Lord, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 in the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway, New Jersey.
We respectfully request that no one arrive at the funeral home prior to the posted visitation times, so as not to intrude on the family’s private time.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Thursday, July 20th. from 4:00-7:00PM. On Friday, July 21st., at 9:45AM, everyone will start to gather directly at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Union, where a Divine Liturgy will be offered at 10:00AM. The prayers of the committal will precede Katherine’s burial in the family plot in the Evergreen Cemetery in Hillside. New Jersey.
Katherine, the daughter of the late Eleanor Kourasmenaki Massas and the late Christos Massas, was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey. She resided in Hillside, New Jersey for over forty years prior to settling in Rahway, New Jersey in 2002.
Katherine had a career in the medical field since 1990 and she worked as a medical administrator for the New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Company sponsored clinic in Hillside for ten years prior to her well-deserved retirement in 2002.
Throughout her life, Katherine was a collector of antiques. As her knowledge and purchases increased, so did her ability to not only buy, but also to sell antiques of all kinds. Her love of history, both American and European, aided her with the background chronicle of items, but Katherine simply had a love and ignited interest in learning about the history of the many wonderous nations. She was also a gifted artist painting and drawing in the various mediums of oils, watercolors, pastels, pen and ink, just to name a few. Katherine was an active member of the Rahway Senior Citizens Club and she was constantly participating in their art programs and shows. Her love of color was extremely evident as her green thumbs worked overtime in tending to her blossoming garden full of beautiful flowers and of course, the gorgeous roses that everyone knew were her favorites. Above all her interests, her love of animals topped the charts. She never limited herself to one kind of animal or breed….. she adored them all! Even with all these pursuits that most definitely kept her busy, Katherine’s family was the core of her life and her love. She would drop anything to just spend time with them. It really didn’t matter whether it was for a fancy dinner out or a simple coffee and cake around the kitchen table. Katherine knew what it meant to love and to be loved!
She leaves behind the broken hearts of her two daughters, Christine K. Ambrozy and Eleanor A. Scaglione and her husband, Wayne and her adored grandson, Gerald Joseph Pydeski, Jr..
Katherine was a woman blessed with family, friends and neighbors and she had an abundance of love for everyone in her circle. She will be deeply missed, but Katherine will never be forgotten.
