Joseph Tomaszewski Obituary

Mr. Joseph Tomaszewski, 93, entered the arms of the Lord, surrounded by His heavenly angels on Friday, July 18, 2025.

Joseph, the son of the late Hatti Kaczmarek Tomaszewski and the late Joseph Tomaszewski, was born in Buffalo, New York where he lived for twenty-five years and then he moved to Linden where he resided for fifty years.  Even during that time, Joseph would often travel back to Buffalo to visit family, childhood friends and co-workers.  In 2016, Joseph decided to foray a bit further south and ended up in Brick.

Joseph had a thirty-two-year career as a warehouseman for Wakefern Food Corporation in Elizabeth prior to taking his well-deserved retirement.

A time-honored veteran Joseph served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.  It was his upbringing and his military training that cemented his character.  Joseph was a hard worker who seemed to be working all the time, although he never complained.  He was meticulous with his lawn maintenance and the running joke was that Joseph used scissors to cut it.  He took his household chores very seriously and he did everything inside and outside the house.  Joseph was the sole driver in the home and one of his responsibilities was to take his wife and his kids anywhere and everywhere…..whether to school, church, shopping or sports events.  There were a lot of miles added up on his car.  Speaking of sports, Joseph was a huge Buffalo Bills NFL fan, as well as a NY Yankee MLB enthusiast.  His summers were spent fishing and crabbing with his son, Joe.  When he would come home for lunch, Joseph would watch the soap operas, especially “The Young and the Restless” for some downtime before he had to return to the warehouse.  Joseph often played the lottery hoping to win the “Big One”....don’t we all!  Above all else, Joseph was a selfless man who was dedicated to his family without fault.  He would do anything for the loves of his life, his wife and his children.  They meant more to him than all the gold in Fort Knox.

Joseph is survived by his devoted wife of sixty-seven years, Dorothy Witkowski Tomaszewski; his three children, Deborah Goodell, Michael Tomaszewski and his wife, Gayle and Joseph Tomaszewski and his wife, Shannon; his three grandchildren, Matthew Tomaszewski, Tyler Tomaszewski and Eddie Goodell; his great grandchild, Charlie Goodell and Joseph’s many neighbors and friends.

Joseph was the center of life for his family, and he had an abundance of love for everyone in his circle.  Joseph will be deeply missed, but he will never be forgotten.

With respect to Joseph’s wishes, his traditional funeral will be private for the immediate family only.  Please keep Joseph and his loved ones in your prayers.
