Joseph, the son of the late Patricia Stephens Colwell and the late Joseph Colwell, was born in Brooklyn, New York. He lived there for over forty years before relocating to Coral Springs, Florida three years ago.
Joseph was a bus driver for M R Transportation Inc of Inwood, New York for many years before his much-anticipated retirement in 2020.
In his spare time, Joe loved to watch football and of course, the New York Giants were his favorite professional team. Many a morning and afternoon was spent salt water fishing with his son, especially when the blues were running. Relaxation also came in the form of playing video games and watching movies, notably action movies like the John Wick or the Lethal Weapon series. Cooking – oh my goodness, can you say “Manja!” – Joe was renowned for his fried chicken and making gigantic plates for everyone who was lucky enough to sit at his table. Even though he, his wife & children comprised a family of four - Joe always cooked as if he was feeding a small army. Music was forever in the background, and you could find him belting out so many Motown and Oldies favorites. His kids were forever hearing him sing “My Girl” and “Under the Boardwalk”. Even with all these adventures and activities, the most important thing in Joe’s life that gave him the greatest joy was simply to spend time with his family. He loved them so much!
Predeceased by his wife, Jane Colwell; Joe is survived by his son, Joseph Colwell, Jr; his daughter, Jessica Colwell; his sister, Darleen Rivera; his three brothers, Gary Colwell, Daryl Colwell, and Eric Colwell and his seven adored grandchildren, Alyssa, Tasha, Samantha, Joseph, Riley, Lia and Alec.
Joe was the center of life for his family, and he had an abundance of love for everyone in his circle. He will be deeply missed, but he will never be forgotten.
