John P. Sirochman, 91, of Linden, NJ, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2022 at Trinitas Medical Center in Elizabeth, NJ.
We respectfully request that no one arrive at the funeral home prior to the posted visitation times, so as not to intrude on the family’s private time.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Wednesday, December 28th. from 9:30-11:00AM. A prayer service will begin at 10:45AM at the funeral home, followed by the entombment in the family mausoleum space at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia, NJ. Please omit flowers! In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project.
John was born on December 26th, 1930 in Elizabeth, NJ to John and Estelle Sirochman. He lived most of his life in Linden with his wife Edna raising their family together. John worked as a sheet metal worker for both Local 28 and Local 22. He served as the Vice President and Business Agent of Local 22. He was a hard worker who believed in a good day’s work, the union workforce, and the jobs they provided. John’s highlight during his career was being part of the Statue of Liberty’s restoration in the mid 1980’s.
John was an honored member of the United States Army serving from 1951 to 1953. He had training as an airplane mechanic for both the Army and Air Force. He enjoyed traveling to various places with Edna such as Hawaii, Ireland, and England. In his younger years, John liked to go fishing and crabbing, and later years loved to paint and dabbled in photography. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. John lived a very full life, filled with love from his family, friends, and of course his granddaughter and great-grandchildren, fondly always known as “Granddad.”
Predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Edna M. (Coughlin) Sirochman in 2013, and his son-in-law Eugene “Gene” Braun, he is survived by his three children Nancy Braun, John P. Sirochman Jr., and Michael J. Sirochman, his granddaughter Ashley DuBois and her husband Derek, his great grandchildren Devin and Ava, his sisters Madeline Nolan and Virginia Peckus, and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
