Joel Nunez Obituary

Mr. Joel Nunez, 41, affectionately called “Joey” by his family and friends entered his eternal rest on Thursday, August 22, 2024.

On Thursday, August 29th. at 9:45AM family and friends are asked to gather directly at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church in Linden, where a memorial funeral mass will be offered at 10:00AM.  Later in the day, family and friends are invited to spend time with Joel’s family during the memorial visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden from 4:00-7:00PM.  We respectfully request that no one arrive at the funeral home prior to the posted visitation times, so as not to intrude on the family’s private time.  The cremation in Rosehill Crematory, in Linden was private.

Joel, the son of Delsy M. Moran Espinal and Simeon Nunez Estevez was born in Brooklyn, New York where he lived for ten years before moving to New Jersey.  Joel, a graduate of Linden High School, has been a resident of Linden since 1999.

Joel’s career brought him to New Era Technology in Newark nine years ago where he has been a technical support engineer.  He was well known among his colleagues as being a hard and dedicated worker.

In his spare time, Joel surrounded himself with music of all different genres.  He even loved to periodically take on the role of a “DJ” with other family members.  A free spirit, Joel loved to travel the world, visiting places like Mexico, Jamaica and parts of Europe.  If you were fortunate to sit opposite him, you probably would find yourself in a lively, spirited debate with Joel on a variety of subjects including religion and philosophy.  He loved to talk and discuss all the exciting things happening in the world today.  Joel enjoyed watching documentaries where the real truth behind the story could be found.  All in all, the most important aspect of Joel’s’ life was spending time with his family.  It didn’t have to be a major event or holiday.  Anyone stopping by on the fly to visit or even just hanging out in the backyard with any of his family or friends was a moment to celebrate life.  Joel was one of those people that you just wanted to be in their company!

Predeceased by his sister, Giselle M. Nunez in 2013, Joel is survived by his parents, Delsy M. Moran Espinal and Simeon Nunez Estevez; his two brothers, Xavier Nunez and Lenny Nunez; his numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and Joel’s many friends, co-workers and neighbors.

Joel was the shining light of his family that has now been dimmed.  Please offer your prayers, love and hugs to his family as they now struggle to find their way without him.  Joel always had an abundance of love for everyone in his circle.  He will be deeply missed, but will never be forgotten.
