Irene Goorahoo Obituary

Mrs. Irene A. Ferreira Goorahoo, 87 and affectionately known as “Monica” to many of her friends, of Linden, New Jersey died on Monday, February 7, 2022, in her home, surrounded by the loving care of her family.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Friday, February 11th. from 6:00-9:00PM.  On Saturday, February 12th. between 9:00-9:15AM, everyone will meet directly at St. John the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Linden/Clark where a funeral mass will be offered at 9:30AM.  The prayers of committal will precede Mrs. Goorahoo’s burial in the family plot in Rosedale Cemetery in Linden, New Jersey.

Mrs. Goorahoo, the daughter of the late Sylvia Lambert Ferreira and the late John Perelta Ferreira, was born in Georgetown, Guyana, South America.  She came to the United States on June 15, 2015, and she immediately settled in Linden, New Jersey.

While in Guyana, Mrs. Goorahoo worked as an administrative secretary for The United Force, a conservative political party, for many years prior to her retirement in 2000 and she was also a member of the Women’s Affairs Arm of The United Force.

Mrs. Goorahoo was deeply religious, and she was an avid church attendee.  She felt that her vocation was to visit the sick and offer any comfort that she could or take positive actions to make things better for people.  In her spare time, Mrs. Goorahoo was a voracious reader and she also enjoyed watching television, especially the Young & the Restless daytime soap opera and the ever favorite “The Love Boat”.  Mrs. Goorahoo kept up with the day-to-day activities of her beloved Guyana through her Facebook page, but she was terribly proud of her ambitious achievement of becoming a United States Citizen on November 3, 2021.

Predeceased by her husband, Garfield Rockifella Goorahoo in 1970, Mrs. Goorahoo is survived by her son, John Goorahoo and his wife, Oma; her sister, Adelaide Ferreira and her two grandchildren, Stephanie Ann Goorahoo and Andrew Garfield Goorahoo.

Mrs. Goorahoo was an outstanding woman who left her county and came to the United States and made a brand new, exciting, and fulfilling life for herself.  She is adored by her family and the love and the memories they all shared will continue to flourish.  Mrs. Goorahoo will be deeply missed and will never be forgotten.
