Helen Mazurek

It is with a heavy heart that we share that Helen Mazurek (nee: Bekasz), 97, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife of the late Edmund Mazurek, passed away peacefully on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2024.

Helen was born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey. She married the love of her life, Edmund, in 1949 and they were married for 64 years until his death in 2013.  They moved to Linden in 1959 and had their home built on property owned and gifted by her parents. When Helen was not at her home with her own family, she could always be found with her loving sister and best friend Matilda (Tillie) Bajgier, who predeceased her in 2015.  

Helen was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth’s of Hungary Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Golden Age and Linden Seniors.  Her legacy are her children, Mary Ellen Mazurek, who predeceased her in 2022, Richard Mazurek and his wife Angela, Carolyn Mazurek and her fiancé, Roger and Joyce Runfolo and her husband, Peter; her grandchildren, Michael Breunig and his wife Jill; Nicole Ellis and Tyler Runfolo and her great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Zachary Breunig.  Helen was a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews she considered as her very own. 

Family and friends are invited to the visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Saturday, January 6th. from 8:30-9:00AM.  A prayer service will begin at 9:00AM, followed by the funeral mass to be offered in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church in Linden at 10:00AM.  The prayers of the committal will precede Helen’s burial in the family plot in St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia, New Jersey.
