Mrs. Helen L. Banko, 93, entered the arms of the Lord on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.
We respectfully request that no one arrive at the funeral home prior to the posted visitation times, so as not to intrude on the family’s private time.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Thursday, September 5th. from 10:00AM-12:00Noon. The prayers of committal in the mausoleum chapel will precede Helen’s entombment in the family crypt in St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen’s memory to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
Helen, the daughter of the late Helen Fortuna Zamorski and the late Kajetan Zamorski was born on November 22, 1930 in Linden, New Jersey.
Growing up in Linden, Helen graduated from Linden High School, and she dedicated her life to various roles, including working as a secretary and volunteering at the nearby Rahway Hospital. She was well-known in her community for hosting a popular polka radio program every Sunday afternoon broadcasting from Long Branch, New Jersey. Helen devoted many years in raising her two daughters, Ellen and Claudia.
Helen was a resident of Colonia, New Jersey for thirty-two years before settling in Auburn, New York in 2004. While in Colonia, Helen and her immediate family were long-time members of St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church.
Throughout her life, Helen had numerous hobbies, including playing bingo, visiting casinos, and watching her favorite TV shows, "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy." Helen also enjoyed polka dancing, reading, river rafting, snow skiing, and horseback riding. Helen always embraced life with enthusiasm!
Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Edward J. Banko on February 18, 2014; her twin sister, Florence Pentol; her eight additional sisters and brothers, Olga Obara, Rose Filipski, Grace Beck, Kazmiera Zamorski, Joseph Zamorski, Henry (Bucky) Zamorski, Stanislaw Zamorski and Tadeusz Zamorski.
Helen is survived by her two daughters, Ellen Ross (Leigh) and Claudia Bogumil (Dave); her brother, Teddy Zamorski; her two granddaughters, Grace Bisnath and Faith Bogumil, and Helen’s numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.
