Filomena Cotos Obituary

Mrs. Filomena Cotos, 95, of Elizabeth, New Jersey died Sunday, March 27, 2022, in the Trinitas Hospital in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Thursday, March 31st. from 5:00-9:00PM.  We respectfully ask that all visitors do not arrive before 5:00PM, so as not to intrude on the family’s private time.  On Friday, April 1st., at 9:30AM, everyone will start to gather in the funeral home where a prayer service will be offered at 10:00AM, followed by the prayers of committal which will precede Mrs. Cotos’s burial in the family plot in Rosedale Cemetery, Linden, New Jersey.

Mrs. Cotos, the daughter of the late Teodora Fuentes Mejia and the late Nicolas Mejia, was born in Callao, Peru.  She came to the United States in 1974 and quickly settled in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Mrs. Cotos was a factory line worker for various companies in the area for twenty-three years and she started to enjoy her retirement in 1997.

Throughout her life, Mrs. Cotos always kept both her mind and her hands busy as she loved to do crossword puzzles of all kinds and was a skilled knitter.

Predeceased by her husband, Jorge Cotos (2017) and her son, Benjamin Cotos (1993), Mrs. Cotos is survived by her children, Jorge Cotos and his wife, Mercedes, David Cotos and his wife, Milena, Eliana Bouroncle and her husband, Jaime, Humberto Cotos, Efrain Cotos and his wife, Roberta; her seven grandchildren; her six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Mrs. Cotos was blessed beyond measure because her family and friends surrounded her with love, care, respect, and devotion.  There was absolutely nothing in her life that gave her greater joy than spending time with her family and it didn’t matter whether it was for large gatherings or very simply one on one time spent around the kitchen table or sitting in the sunshine in the backyard.  Our Mama, our Abuela will be forever in our hearts.
