Doris J Coppa

April 10, 2022

Obituary

Mrs. Doris J. Marcocci Coppa, 88, left us to be with the Lord on Palm Sunday, April 10, 2022, surrounded by the love and devotion of her family.

The family respectfully asks that no one arrive earlier than the actual posted visitation times, so as not to infringe on the private time set aside for them.  Also due to special circumstances, mask wearing will be mandatory in the funeral home.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Wednesday, April 20th. from 3:00-7:00PM.  On Thursday, April 21st. at 9:45AM, everyone will start to gather directly at St. John the Apostle R.C. Church, Linden/Cark where the funeral mass will be offered at 10:00AM.  The prayers of committal will precede Doris’s entombment in the family crypt in St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia, New Jersey.

Doris, the daughter of the late Pia Altobelli Marcocci and the late John Marcocci, was born in Robertsdale, Pennsylvania.  She resided in Linden, New Jersey for nineteen years before settling in Rahway, New Jersey for forty-eight years.  In February of 2022, Doris relocated to Freehold, New Jersey.

Doris was a past officer and member of the Ladies Auxiliary Linden Knights of Columbus Council #2859 of Linden.  To the ladies of this organization, she was more than that; Doris was the go-to lady along with her side kick, Joyce Vena.  Together they organized and worked so many fund raising and charitable events - chicken/fish and pasta dinners, weekend bus rides for shopping expeditions to Pennsylvania and the ever-popular tricky trays.  Many of the members felt that these two ladies were like the Energizer bunnies, always doing for the good of others.  It was often laughed about that when Joyce raised her hand to volunteer for a job, that meant that Doris was an automatic co-chair.  All of Doris’s good works, along with her gracious demeanor were simply an offshoot of her true nature of being an outstanding, old fashioned kind of Mom.  She loved to cook for everyone, at any time and her true passion was just spending time with her large and loving family.  For Doris, there was nothing better in her life!

Predeceased by her son-in-law, George Dooley in 1998, Doris is survived by her husband of sixty-seven years, Carmine G. Coppa; her three children, George R. Coppa and his wife, Anne, Phyllis A. Dooley, Lisa A. Symczak and her husband, Stephen; her seven grandchildren, Megan M. Coppa. Nicholas G. Coppa, Brian G. Dooley and his wife, Silvana, Shannon N. Dooley, Stephen J. Symczak and his wife, Katie, Kevin M. Symczak and his wife, Santana and Tyler J. Symczak and her great grandchild, Giuliana M. Dooley.

Doris was truly the center of the universe for her family and her love for them had no limits.  Carmine and his family are devastated and feel so lost.  Doris will be deeply missed by all her family and friends, but her smile and her love will live on in our hearts and she will never be forgotten.
