Mr. Charles A. Olbrys, 93, of Linden, New Jersey was reunited heavenly with his late wife, Rosemary E. Brady Olbrys (1997) on Saturday, October 8, 2022.
We respectfully request that no one arrive at the funeral home prior to the posted visitation times, so as not to intrude on the family’s private time.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Wednesday, October 12th. from 10:00AM-12:00Noon. At the conclusion of the visitation, there will be a prayer service and a celebration of life in the funeral home, offered by the Reverend Bryan Wolf. The prayers of committal will then precede Mr. Olbrys’s burial in the family plot in St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia, New Jersey.
Mr. Olbrys, the son of the late Frances Zyke Olbrys and the last Francis Olbrys, was born in Linden, New Jersey and he truly was a lifelong resident of Linden.
He had a thirty-five-year career as a painter with the International Painters and Allied Trade Union, Local 1221, District Council 10 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, specializing in commercial and industrial painting before taking his well-deserved retirement in 1994.
In his spare time, Mr. Olbrys could often be found in the back yard tending to his ever-flourishing vegetable garden and the bounty of his hard work and green thumb was often shared with family and friends in the neighborhood. Frequently, he liked to visit Atlantic City where the blackjack tables called his name. Win or lose, Mr. Olbrys made the best out of every trip and frankly enjoyed himself. Horse racing was another interest that was always a memorable experience, whether it was betting OTC or spending the day at his favorite place, Monmouth Park! Living in New Jersey, who isn’t a football fan & the NY Giants were his team. Truth be told however, Mr. Olbrys’s favorite team was undeniably the team he wagered on that day and won…..some days were good and others not so much so, but that’s the nature of the sport. Although he did not play the game, he also enjoyed watching professional golf on the television. As you have been reading, it is quite evident that Mr. Olbrys knew how to entertain himself with a variety of interests and hobbies. However, the most important aspect of his life was any moment he spent with his family whether at a big family or holiday celebration or merely hanging out in the backyard sitting around and telling stories.
Mr. Olbys is survived by his five children; Elizabeth L. Lennon, Charles A. Olbrys, Jr., Michael F. Olbrys and his wife, Maria R., F. Robert Olbrys and Joseph Olbrys; his five grandchildren, Kristopher Velez, Michael F. Olbrys, Jr. and his wife, Michele, Chaz Olbrys, Jake Olbrys and Samantha Rose Olbrys and his two great grandchildren, Sophia Olbrys and Michael F. Olbrys III.
Our hearts are breaking because we have lost a great family man who was so many things to so many people in his life. On the other hand, we have joy for our dad because he is finally back with the love of his life, our mom, Rosemary, who our dad lost twenty-four years ago.
We miss them terribly, but our love for them will never fade and we will never forget. God grant them eternal rest.
