Charlie, the son of the late Charles Alfano, Sr. and the late Kathleen Kennedy Alfano, was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He lived most of his younger days in Elizabeth, followed by a three year stint living in Linden, New Jersey prior to settling in Rahway, New Jersey in 1995.
Charlie was the owner and operator of a “big rig” and he worked under the business name of D and C Alfano Trucking, LLC in Rahway. He was an independent contractor for Hermann’s Transportation in Monmouth Junction, New Jersey from 2006 until his retirement due in illness in May of 2022.
Charlie loved to work on all kinds of car and big rigs…it was just in his blood!. He enjoyed watching the television, especially his favorite shows ‘’The Walking Dead” and on the Discovery Channel – “How It’s Made”. Also, any shows on the History or Science Channels and Charlie was just instantaneously riveted. The music of the 1950’s - the golden oldies and the Do Woop were high on his listening pleasure and Charlies had so many favorite groups that we couldn’t just list one or two. He liked to get together at the local Wawa with his friends to enjoy a cup of coffee and a cigarette; simply hanging out and catching up! The true enjoyment of Charlie’s life was time spent and memories made with his family and his menagerie of five dogs and 1 cat……..Quite a collection!
Charlie had numerous losses in his life – events that would have brought a weaker man to his knees, including the death of his son, Anthony Charles Alfano (2021), his daughter, Christina Otto (2013) and his brother, Richard Kennedy. Despite all the adversity, Charlie kept moving forward and doing the best that he could, with what he had to work with and never complained.
Charlie is survived by his wife of seventeen years, Donnamarie Otto Alfano; his two sons, Gregory Alfano and his wife, Nicole and Corey Alfano and his fiancée, Jessica Conceicao; his brother, Michael Alfano and his wife, Jodi, his three grandchildren, Adrian Alfano, Destiny Otto and Isabella Irizarry, his great grandson, Oliver Dixon, his two sisters-in-law, Jean Chucka and her husband, Gary and Terry Visser; several nieces and nephews and his former wife, Cheryl Pantina.
Charlie was recently celebrated with a big party where his family and friends gathered to eat, drink, laugh and dance the night away. Charlie had the best time of all, surrounded by those he loved and those who loved him, and he truly enjoyed every minute. That’s the Charlie that all should remember!
