Cecilia L. Darrar

Mrs. Cecilia L. Tangorra Darrar, 91, entered the arms of the Lord, escorted by His heavenly angels on Tuesday, May 30, 2023.

The graveside prayers of committal and her burial in the family plot will take place on Friday, June 2, 2023, at 10:45AM in St. Joseph Cemetery in Toms River. 

Cecilia, the daughter of the late Mary Scutieri Tangorra and the late Frank Tangorra, was born and raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey where she graduated from St. Patrick’s High School.  In 1978, she and her husband, Charles moved to Forked River, followed by a stay in Toms River.  Cecilia then returned to the Rahway area in 2016 before settling in Linden in December of 2022. 

A homemaker throughout most of her life, Cecilia was employed from 1983 to 1995 in the accounting department of the Ocean County Department of Social Services.

In her spare time, Cecilia was often found in the backyard digging up the dirt and tending to her garden of colorful flowers.  It was a well-known joke that Cecilia did the digging and Charles did the planting.  One way or another, a beautiful garden was created.  She also had a great love and devotion to her puppies, especially her first poodle, Angel and her last shih tzu, Muffin.

Predeceased by her husband, Charles J. Darrar on December 9, 2014, and her sister Gloria Gilrain, Cecilia is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gary P. Darrar and his wife, Sandra “Sandy” K. Darrar; her sister, Phyllis Gilrain and her many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

Cecilia made her own special place in this world, and she will remain in the prayers, thoughts, and hearts of all those who loved her.
