Carol Stancheck Obituary

Mrs. Carol Ann Battaglia Stancheck, 72, died Tuesday, July 5, 2022, in her home surrounded by her loving family.

We respectfully request that no one arrive at the funeral home prior to the posted visitation times, so as not to intrude on the family’s private time.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Wednesday, July 13th. from 5:00-8:00PM.

Carol was the daughter of the late Olive J. Gibbert Battaglia and the late Michael Battaglia, Jr. Although born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Carol lived her entire life in Linden, New Jersey.

Carol was a very hard worker, and her career went down a number of different paths.  She began doing administrative and clerical work for Menasha Corporation in North Brunswick.  Carol also owned and operated Birchwood Realty in Linden where she was the licensed broker of record.  Everyone that came into the Sterling House Dinner in Sterling, New Jersey knew Carol, who was a very popular waitress there for many years.  At the same time, Carol opened the Caboose Coffee Shop, near the Linden Train station.  Carol then moved on to work for the Linden Police Department as their 9-11 Dispatcher for fifteen years until her health issues force her to retire twenty years ago.

Carol and her family have deep roots and connections with the Reformed Church of Linden.  She was a Law & Order SVU fanatic and enjoyed watching the Reba show, as well.  In her earlier days, Carol could be found tooling around on a snowmobile with her kids and family members.  Most of all, Carol just lived her life for her children.  There was nothing in this world more important to her and she became a force of nature when it came to anything regarding her sons.

In addition to her parents, Carol was predeceased by her husband, the late Gerard “Jerry” F. Stancheck on February 24, 2019, and her son, the late Vincent M. Vito on March 18, 2004.

Carol is survived by her son, Joseph J. Vito and his wife, Wendy; her two brothers, John P. Battaglia and his wife, Kathleen and Michael Battaglia III and his wife, Nancy: her two sisters, Lori J. Udvari and her husband, Thomas and Lisa M. Battaglia; her two grandchildren, Justin J. Procopio and Victoria R. Vito and her several nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

The losses that Carol endured in life were far more than mere bumps in the road, but she always persevered and continued to live her life for her son and her family.  Carol’s love was boundless and as much as she will be terribly missed, we know that Carol will always be in our hearts.
