Carol Peters Obituary

Mrs. Carol Ann Patricia Peters, 79, broke the hearts of all who love her, when she passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023.

We respectfully request that no one arrive at the funeral home prior to the posted visitation times, so as not to intrude on the family’s private time.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Monday, June 5th. from 3:00-7:00PM.  On Tuesday, June 6th. at 8:30AM, everyone will start to gather in the funeral home where a prayer service will begin at 9:00AM, followed by the funeral mass to be offered in St. Joseph the Carpenter Roman Catholic Church in Roselle at 10:00AM.  The prayers of committal will precede Mrs. Peter’s entombment in the family crypt in Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.

Carol, the daughter of the late Jennie Occhipinti Patricia and the late Joseph Patricia was born in the family home in Elizabeth, New Jersey.  She remained in Elizabeth and then started a new chapter in her life when Carol moved to Roselle, New Jersey sixty years ago.

Her work career started to blossom when her youngest child began kindergarten and how she got the job made for a great part of family history.  Carol was employed by various supermarkets including Foodtown in Linden and Pathmark in Elizabeth.  Her duties ran the gamut from working in the front office, to overseeing the cashiers to even working the cash register, if necessary.  Quite frankly Carol did anything on the job that needed to be done and she was viewed as a hardworking and dedicated employee, who made things fun.

She had been an active member of the former Ladies Auxiliary Linden Knights of Columbus Council #2859.  Throughout her life, her hobbies and talents kept Carol so busy.  She loved to cook and was famous for her mouthwatering lasagna.  Carol enjoyed cooking for major holiday meals where the entire crew would gather around the dining room table.   Later as she got older and was no longer the host, but now the participant, Carol made sure to always bring along one of her signature dishes, such as meatballs, sausage and peppers or truly any of her delicious traditional Italian fares that she knew all would enjoy.  Carol loved to garden especially with her husband, Bruce, as they both seemed to have double green thumbs and she could grow anything, but it was always colorful and bountiful.  Carol’s love for the Jersey shore was fostered early in her life, since the Patricia family spent each summer in Seaside Heights.  The bright sunshine, the salty smell of the ocean, the crashing sound of the rolling waves and the feeling you get when your toes are in the sand all made for a perfect day for Carol.  She also appreciated the affection and companionship of dogs and Carol was fortunate to have quite a few of those fur babies over the years while her husband Bruce was living.  After the loss of her beagle, Peter, Carol would volunteer to doggy sit for family members when they went on vacation.  This gave her the best of both worlds – a dog to enjoy for a while, without the added responsibility of caring for a pet for years.  Constantly on the move, Carol found relaxation time watching the Hallmark channel.  Oh, those romantic movies that you could immediately guess the plot line but were hooked into watching anyway!  Even with all of this, the greatest joy for Carol came from spending time with her family, no matter what they were going to do.  She adored anything that was done with her granddaughters, as they made sure Carol was up to date on the latest trends and actually kept Carol young at heart by simply being in their presence.

She lost two of the loves of her life, her husband, Bruce G. Peters, Sr. in 2015 and her daughter, Dawn Schworn in 2019.

Carol is survived by her loving family, her son, Bruce G. Peters, Jr. and his wife, Joanne; her son-in-law, James Schworn; her sister, Joyce Vena; her brother, Gabriel Patricia; her six granddaughters, Erin Peters, Emily Schworn, Grace Peters, Caitlin Schworn, Sarah Schworn and Jenna Schworn; her niece, her nephews, her cousins,  her neighbors and friends.

Carol was the guiding light for her family, and she had an abundance of love for everyone in her circle.  She will be deeply missed, but Carol will forever remain in our hearts.
