Born in Leogane, Haiti on March 4, 1929, to parents Autin and Aristina (Lamy) Joseph, Bernadette spent her younger years with her family in Haiti. Family was extremely important to Bernadette, and she learned to care for others. She was known in the neighborhood as the kind woman who would always be willing to help. Bernadette loved to make jokes and laugh, and share a glass of wine with others. Upon immigrating to the United States, Bernadette built a life for herself and her family in New Jersey, mainly staying in Linden. She loved caring for her family above everything and was a truly wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Bernadette enjoyed watching TV, especially Sanford and Son, and visiting with family. Bernadette was truly a caring woman, and will me greatly missed, but never forgotten.
Bernadette is predeceased by her parents Autin and Aristina, her daughter Marie-Marthe Brevil, and her son Martial Brevil. She is survived by her daughters Christine Laguerre, Micheline Olivier and her husband Sauthaire, Marie-Carline, and Marie-Nyrva Brevil, her daughter-in-law Jacqueline Puryear, her grandchildren Johanne Gresseau, James, Georges-Roberto, Nick, Mike, Vanessa, Jessica, and Bernice, her 10 great-grandchildren Jessicka, Richard, Derreck, Shaquirra, Johanathra, Manuella, Ashley, Angelica, Alberto, Akiva, her great-great grandchildren Alajah, Javier, A'lahlee, Aleana, Junior, Jayden, Jalah, Noah, Vera, George, her honorary “children” Guyrardele, Wesley, Judith, Gerald, Reginald, Henry, Ludie, Betty, Shouba, Jymmy, Farah, Ernest, Omar, Undeine, Lohe, Dominique, Pierrot, Lineta, Tinesie, Martine, Uirbine, Nasmo, Judith, Ganaella, Anegaelle, Natacha, Merlene, Parnel, Ben, Clement, Jean Claude, Rocky, Guy, and many other extended family and friends.
