Basmattie Ahmad

Basmattie Ahmad, 64, died Tuesday, December 6, 2022, in the Elizabeth Nursing & Rehabilitation Center-LTC in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

We respectfully request that no one arrive at the funeral home prior to the posted visitation times, so as not to intrude on the family’s private time. 

Family and friends are invited to the visitation in the Kowalski Funeral Home, 515 Roselle Street, Linden on Saturday, December 10^th. from 9:00-11:00AM.  Hindu prayer services will be conducted during the visitation and then continue in the chapel at Rosehill Crematory, Linden, prior to the witness cremation.

Basmattie, the daughter of the late Jawantie Hazire Gamandy and the late Budha Gamandy, was born in Guyana.  She came to the United States in 1991 and Basmattie resided in Linden, New Jersey for three years prior to settling in Elizabeth, New Jersey in 2009.

While living in Guyana, Basmattie worked in the banking industry.

Basmattie enjoyed playing bingo and watching television, most notably, Judge Judy and the Martha Stewart cooking show.  As a woman who enjoyed cooking, she greatly appreciated Martha Stewart’s expertise, but Basmattie who adored cooking for her family, never used any of Martha’s recipes. This often raised a chuckle among the family!

Basmattie is survived by her two sons, Bushan Persaud and his wife, Lynn and Ekram Persaud and his wife, Vanessa; her brother, Ramesh Gamandy; her two sisters, Shantie Kowlssar and Meenawatie Goberdhan and her five grandchildren Harry, Bradley, Aaron, Mason and Alexa.

The family’s hearts are broken at this unexpected loss of Basmattie and their eyes are filled with tears.  Basmattie was the center of life for her family, and she loved everyone in her circle.  Basmattie will be deeply missed, but she will never be forgotten,
